Sage Analytics, founded in 2014, was born out of the belief that everyone should have access to affordable, accurate, real-time potency measurement.

Our scientists work with 20 of the top 25 global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, providing real-time solutions to solve a myriad of analytical challenges. We’ve taken this technology and created devices specifically for the cannabis industry, providing the same value and quality that we have been supplying to other industries for over 17 years, via our sister company Prozess Technologie.

The mission at Sage Analytics is to bring a higher level of testing accuracy and affordability to the cannabis industry, increase public awareness about the availability of instant marijuana testing, and improve consumer confidence in the potency measurements of the products they purchase.


Our solution is based off of spectroscopy, which is simply how matter interacts with radiation. In our case, near-infrared (NIR) light. NIR spectroscopy has been used in the manufacturing industry for decades, permitting manufacturers better control over the quality of their products. It has been used for over 50 years in the agricultural industry, and pharmaceutical corporations have been using the technique, with the approval of the FDA, to monitor metrics like active product ingredient in medicines.

NIR light – that region just beyond the red light that our eyes can see – has become increasingly popular because it contains a wealth of information and can be measured very quickly. The Beacon and Luminary Profiler use the most information-rich portion of the NIR range (1500 – 1985 nm), where chemical features are significantly more pronounced and immune to unimportant factors like the cannabis strain or color.

The use of light as an analytical tool affords a number of distinct advantages over alternative methods, such as GC or HPLC. Because light is non-intrusive to the process, spectroscopy-based measurements require no toxic chemicals for sample prep or analysis, leaving the sample intact for future use.

Spectroscopy-based measurements save time, money and resources, as well as limit potential variation that can arise from extensive sample handling and processing in chromatography methods. Ultimately, this means fast, repeatable and accurate data collection every time.

Everyday, cultivators, manufacturers and patients of cannabis dispensaries, are making decisions, yet many must make these decisions without having access to analytical data describing their processes and products. Our scientists have over 20 years of experience in developing multivariate calibration models to instantly and nondestructively quantify diverse analytes, such as the acid and neutral forms of the main two active product ingredients in cannabis – THC and CBD. Just like labs calibrate their instruments to synthetically produce cannabinoid standards, our calibration data models are based off of real-world, commercially available cannabis products.

As new products come to market, we can easily add these into our existing data models, or design supplementary models around the novel product. We’ve diligently evaluated labs in several states and countries to ensure we are partnering with like-minded scientists, dedicated to providing unbiased, realistic and accurate potency data. Users of our technology can rest assured that they have evaluated their products throughout the entire manufacturing process, ensuring peace-of-mind when it comes to appropriate quality control measures.
